Sod is the fastest way to turn a bare, thin or washed out yard into a finished lawn. It is also the job where preparation decides the outcome, and where most of the failures people have seen came from skipping that preparation.

Laying turf on unprepared ground gives you a lawn that looks right for about three weeks and then starts going patchy where the roots never took. We grade and prepare the soil first, then lay into it, because the part nobody sees is the part that determines whether the lawn is still there next summer.

What a sod install includes

  • Clearing the old turf, weeds and debris off the area
  • Grading so water runs away from the house instead of pooling in the low spot
  • Preparing the soil so new roots have something to move into
  • Turf selected for your light conditions and how the area gets used
  • Laying tight with staggered seams so the joints knit instead of showing
  • A watering schedule written down for you, since the first two weeks decide whether it takes

New sod installation carries a three week warranty. If the turf fails inside that window we come back and put it right.

How a sod job runs

  1. Measure and quote

We measure the area, look at drainage and sun, and price it. The estimate is free.

  2. Prep and grade

Old material comes off and the ground gets graded and prepared. This is the step that decides the result.

  3. Lay and water in

Turf goes down tight and gets watered in the same day. We hand you the watering schedule before we leave.

Choosing turf that survives a Lowcountry summer

Sandy soil, salt in the air near the water, and full sun that does not let up from June through September make this a hard place to establish a lawn. Turf that performs beautifully somewhere else can struggle badly here, especially in the stretch where daytime heat and humidity both stay high.

So we pick from warm season turf suited to this climate and match it to the specific area. A back yard shaded by live oaks and a front yard in open sun are two different problems, and putting the same turf in both is how you end up with half a lawn.

Sod Installation questions

How long before I can walk on new sod?

Stay off it as much as you can for the first two weeks while the roots take hold. Light foot traffic after that is fine. Hold off on heavy use, furniture or play until it has knitted in.

How much do I need to water new sod?

A lot, and daily, for the first couple of weeks. That is the single biggest factor in whether an install takes. We write the schedule down and leave it with you rather than expecting you to remember it.

Can you sod just the bare patches?

Yes. Patching is common where a tree came out, where a vehicle sat, or where drainage killed a section. We will tell you honestly if patching will look obviously different from the surrounding lawn.

What is covered by the three week warranty?

Turf that fails to establish in that window. It does not cover sod that was not watered on the schedule we left, because that is the one variable we cannot control after we leave.
